We totally recommend that you watch it! Still not convinced? You can check out the trailer here. Suddenly, three men burst into the room and, while trying to escape, Renton breaks his neck. The film centers on an engineer named Renton (Robbie Amell), who is fast asleep alongside his ex-girlfriend, Hannah (Rachael Taylor). “ ARQ” was released yesterday at midnight and is available to watch on Netflix. ARQ is a science fiction film that was released on Netflix in 2016 and directed by Tony Elliot. While there is still room for improvements for things like the effects, I think this film is overall interesting and worth checking out. Considering its budget, we think that the well-written plot and talented acting makes “ ARQ” a must-see sci-fi film for movie lovers everywhere. While some people are not impressed with certain aspects of the film, we have chosen to rate it 8.5/10. We definitely hope that this film will come with a sequel because we can’t get over that ending! Just when you expect it to all be over, a new twist is thrown in that makes you eager to find out what will happen next. You might even assume that some loops will mostly repeat, but thanks to Elliott’s impressive writing and the phenomenal acting by Amell and Taylor, each loop manages to give a sense of deja-vu along with uncertainty – there are even moments that manage to throw you off guard as you anxiously await to see what is happening next. With each new loop comes twists and discoveries that leave you questioning everything, from which characters to trust to how each loop will play out. ![]() That sense of urgency only grows as the film progresses. In the beginning of the film, you feel a sense of urgency as you watch Renton and Hannah being kidnapped by a group of masked men before they are taken to Renton’s lab. Given the cinematic value does not make up for this lacking script, there is little to grasp on to here. Ignoring massive plot holes and inconsistencies, the film is not intelligent enough to stack up to the great time travel narratives of film, like Upstream Color. An uninspired narrative grinds the close-quarters action to a halt, leaving each iteration of the time loop less inviting than the last. The repetition yields different camera perspectives that are somewhat compelling but never enough to supersede the lackluster narrative.ĪRQ is a throwaway science fiction thriller. The mise-on-scene, as previously described, is sci-fi for sci-fis sake. The contained setting makes for neither claustrophobia nor imagination. Visually, the film is an overly dark, overly sparse space. Ignoring its resemblance to the far superior Edge of Tomorrow, the time loop angle does produce interesting wrinkles as it progresses, but the lack of character and world building is heavily detrimental. ![]() Pääosissa: Robbie Amell,Rachael Taylor,Shaun Benson Katso niin paljon kuin haluat. We learn more as the narrative unfolds, but it is hardly a capable thread when there is no sympathy or intrigue established for the protagonist. We learn very little about the characters, save for that they have a past and are considered criminals in certain powerful circles. But the film must establish something before beginning the narrative in earnest. There is nothing wrong with beginning an action narrative without much explanation of the world itself. Instead, the narrative decides to drop us in medias res, with Ren waking up to the “family” of mercenaries rushing in to return what Ren stole from them. This said, the world of ARQ is not fleshed out. Con Robbie Amell, Rachael Taylor, Shaun Benson, Gray Powell. The world of ARQ is the typical post-apocalyptic science fiction: savages and raiders rule, food is a scarce resource, random technological innovations litter the screen. ![]() Renton (Robbie Amell), or, as he is affectionately referred to by his compatriot Hannah (Rachael Taylor), Ren, finds himself stuck in a time loop paradox in which the same infiltration of his hidden compound occurs over and over again. Not only is it woefully standard, but it is a blatant premise ripoff of the criminally under-seen Edge of Tomorrow. ARQ, the new original movie from OTT service Netflix, is woefully standard.
